Songye Kifwebe Mask
Democratic Republic of Congo
The Songye Kifwebe mask, worn to gain magical powers, is used by initiates of secret societies. The mask has stylized features with a square mouth. The higher the grooved crest on the head, the more magic it has; some even have the power to put lions to sleep.
This entity appears in the story “2. The Bitterness of the Masks”.
